In 1988, the Sunstar Group, a major Japanese multinational corporation specializing in health and beauty products, acquired the John O. Butler Company. Today, the brand is known globally as Sunstar GUM. While Sunstar is a Japanese company headquartered in Switzerland for its international operations, this specific product is manufactured in the United States, maintaining its original production roots. The brand's ownership remains with Sunstar, which continues to distribute these dental products through various regional subsidiaries like Sunstar Iberia and Sunstar Italiana.
