Heidi Chocolate is a premium confectionery brand founded in 1994 by the Swiss Läderach family. Originally established in Bucharest, Romania, as a venture to combine Swiss chocolate-making expertise with local Eastern European production capabilities, the brand quickly became known for its 'hand-crafted' style and diverse range of chocolate bars and pralines.
While the brand maintains a strong Swiss heritage in its recipes and branding, its primary manufacturing facilities remain located in Romania. This strategic location has allowed Heidi to expand its distribution to over 60 countries across the globe. The company focuses on the premium segment, often featuring traditional ingredients alongside creative fruit and nut combinations.
In 2013, the Läderach family sold Heidi Chocolat to KEX Confectionery SA, an investment group owned by the Austrian Meinl family. Today, Heidi operates as part of a larger confectionery group that includes other European heritage brands like Niemetz. Its ultimate ownership remains with KEX Confectionery, headquartered in Austria, while the brand continues to be a leading chocolate exporter in the Romanian market.
