Amstel is a historic beer brand that takes its name from the Amstel River in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Originally brewed by the Amstel Brewery, the brand was acquired in 1968 by the fellow Dutch brewing powerhouse, Heineken. While the original Amstel Brewery in Amsterdam closed in 1982 and production moved to Heineken's main facility in Zoeterwoude, the brand remains deeply rooted in its Dutch heritage.
