TSMC, or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, is the world's largest dedicated independent semiconductor foundry. Founded in 1987 in Taiwan, it pioneered the pure-play foundry business model, meaning it manufactures chips for other companies rather than designing its own products for retail sale.

While the majority of its advanced manufacturing remains in Taiwan (specifically in Science Parks in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan), the company has expanded its global footprint. It operates significant fabrication plants in China and is aggressively expanding its presence in the United States with new high-tech facilities in Arizona.

TSMC is a publicly traded company with a diverse global shareholder base. It is headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and remains an independent entity listed on both the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. There is no exterior ultimate owner company; TSMC is its own parent organization.
