The Stokke Tripp Trapp is an iconic adjustable high chair designed by Peter Opsvik in 1972. It revolutionized the children's furniture market by allowing children to sit at the dinner table with their families at the correct ergonomic height. The brand Stokke AS has its roots in Ålesund, Norway, where it was founded in 1932. Historically, the brand was family-owned for several generations before being acquired by an investment firm.
Today, the Tripp Trapp is primarily manufactured in Europe, specifically in Slovenia, using sustainable wood sources like European beech and oak. In 2014, Stokke AS was acquired by NXMH, an investment company based in Belgium, which is the family-led investment arm of the South Korean entrepreneur Kim Jung-ju (the founder of Nexon). Despite the change in ownership, the brand maintains its headquarters and design philosophy in Norway.
