Salomon is a legendary name in the outdoor sports industry, particularly renowned for its high-performance skiing equipment. Originally founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, the company started as a small workshop producing ski edges and bindings. Over the decades, it evolved into a global leader in mountain sports, pioneering the concept of modern ski touring boots that prioritize both uphill efficiency and downhill performance.
While Salomon remains deeply rooted in the French Alps where its design and development center is located, manufacturing is distributed globally to maintain scale and technical precision. A significant portion of Salomon's premium ski boots are assembled in Romania, a hub for technical footwear in Europe, though other components and models may be produced in various international facilities.
Today, Salomon is part of the Amer Sports group. After being owned by Adidas for several years, it was acquired by the Amer Sports consortium, which is headquartered in Finland. Amer Sports is itself owned by a global investor group led by ANTA Sports, ensuring Salomon has the resources to continue leading innovation in the alpine and backcountry skiing sectors well into the future.
