Tums is a widely recognized brand of antacid tablets, primarily used for the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion. The brand was originally created by pharmacist James Howe in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1928, and it was first marketed by the Lewis-Howe Company. Over the decades, the brand became a staple in the North American market for digestive health.
Following several corporate transitions, Tums became part of the SmithKline Beecham portfolio, which later merged to form GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division into a new independent entity called Haleon. Today, Haleon is the ultimate owner of Tums, managing its global distribution and production. Manufacturing for the North American market remains primarily centered in St. Louis, Missouri, maintaining the brand's historic ties to its city of origin.
