Poulain is one of France's most iconic and historic chocolate brands, founded by Victor-Auguste Poulain in 1848 in Blois. The brand became famous for its pioneering marketing strategies and high-quality cocoa products, eventually becoming a staple in French households for both solid chocolate and cocoa powder.

Historically, the brand underwent several ownership changes, being acquired by Cadbury Schweppes and later becoming part of the Mondelēz International portfolio. In 2017, Mondelēz sold several of its confectionery brands, including Poulain, to the French investment firm Eurazeo. Today, the brand is owned and managed by Carambar & Co, a French company created specifically to house these heritage brands. Production remains largely centered in France, particularly at their historic sites, maintaining its status as a piece of French culinary heritage.
