Sandeman is one of the most iconic names in the world of fortified wines, specifically Port and Sherry. Founded in 1790 by George Sandeman, a young Scotsman who established a wine merchant business in London, the brand eventually became synonymous with quality Port wine produced in the Douro Valley of Portugal. The brand is famously recognized by its 'Don' logo, a mysterious figure wearing a Portuguese student's cape and a wide-brimmed Spanish hat, which was created in 1928.
Today, Sandeman is owned by Sogrape Vinhos, a major Portuguese family-owned company that acquired the brand in 2002. While the brand has global heritage through its British founder and Spanish influence, its core production and ultimate ownership are firmly established in Portugal. The Fine Tawny Port shown is produced and bottled in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, following the traditional aging methods that give the wine its characteristic amber hue and nutty flavor profile.
