Leão, originally known as Matte Leão, is an iconic Brazilian brand founded in 1901 by Agostinho Ermelino de Leão Jr. in Curitiba. The brand started with toasted mate tea, becoming a household name in Brazil over the decades. In 2007, the brand was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company, which significantly expanded its portfolio to include ready-to-drink options like the iced tea shown in the image.

Today, Leão products are manufactured in Brazil across various bottling plants belonging to the Coca-Cola system. The brand is managed by Leão Alimentos e Bebidas, a joint venture between Coca-Cola and its regional bottlers. This structure allows the product to maintain its deep Brazilian roots while benefiting from the global distribution and marketing expertise of its American parent company.
