Cholula Hot Sauce is a globally recognized brand with deep Mexican heritage, originating in the town of Chapala, Jalisco. The recipe, which is over 100 years old, was originally created by the Harrison family and was once primarily used as an ingredient for sangrita. Named after the ancient city of Cholula, Puebla—the oldest continuously inhabited city in North America—the brand is famous for its iconic round wooden cap, which serves as a tribute to the craftsmanship and culture of Mexico.

The Green Pepper variety, featuring a blend of jalapeño and poblano peppers, continues the brand's tradition of being produced in Mexico. Manufacturing takes place at the SANE production facility in Chapala, Jalisco. This process is deeply rooted in local agriculture, with the peppers often harvested by hand and the sauce following a generational recipe that emphasizes flavor over pure heat.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned from family and local licensing (including ties to Jose Cuervo) to private equity and eventually global corporate ownership. In 2020, the American spice giant McCormick & Company acquired the Cholula Food Company for $800 million. Today, McCormick manages the brand's international distribution and marketing while maintaining its authentic manufacturing roots in Mexico.
