Fray Bentos is a heritage brand best known for its range of tinned meat pies, which were originally named after the city of Fray Bentos in Uruguay. The brand's history dates back to the late 19th century when the Liebig Extract of Meat Company (Lemco) began producing corned beef and meat extract in the region. Over the decades, the brand became a staple of British households, particularly for its convenience and long shelf life.
While the brand originated in Uruguay through the Liebig Extract of Meat Company, production was eventually moved to the United Kingdom. Ownership has changed hands several times throughout its history, notably being owned by Campbell Soup Company for a period. Since 2011, Fray Bentos has been owned by Baxters Food Group.
Today, the products are primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically at Baxters' facilities. The microwaveable range represented in the image is a modern expansion of their traditional tinned pie line, designed for quicker preparation while maintaining the classic steak filling that defined the brand's identity for over a century.
