The USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was a massive geopolitical entity that existed from 1922 until its dissolution in 1991. It operated as a centralized command economy where production across various sectors—from industrial heavy machinery to consumer goods—was planned and executed by the state. Originating from the Russian Empire following the 1917 Revolution, it became a global superpower spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia.
In terms of brand identity and 'ownership,' the state itself held complete control over all commercial marks and production facilities. Following its collapse in December 1991, the USSR's assets, international obligations, and global standing were largely succeeded by the Russian Federation. Today, many legacy brands from the Soviet era have been privatized or remain under the control of various successor state enterprises across the 15 former republics.
