Aqua bottled water

Aqua is the most popular brand of bottled water in Indonesia and one of the largest bottled water brands globally. It was first established in 1973 by Tirto Utomo, an Indonesian entrepreneur, under the company PT Aqua Golden Mississippi. The brand was revolutionary at the time for introducing packaged mineral water to the Indonesian market.

In 1998, the brand entered into a strategic partnership with the French multinational food-products corporation Danone. Over time, Danone became the majority shareholder, integrating Aqua into its global portfolio of water brands. Today, Aqua is produced in numerous bottling plants across the Indonesian archipelago to ensure widespread distribution.

Under Danone's ownership, the brand has focused heavily on sustainability and social responsibility, being the first FMCG company in Indonesia to receive B Corp Certification. The ultimate ownership resides with Danone in France, which manages the brand through its local Indonesian subsidiary, PT Tirta Investama.
