Filson's Pioneer Outfitters, the company rose to fame by providing high-quality outdoor gear and clothing for prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush. The brand is renowned for its 'Rugged Twill' and 'Tin Cloth' fabrics, which are designed to withstand extreme conditions.

While Filson gained its reputation through domestic manufacturing in Seattle, the company has expanded its supply chain over the years. Many of its classic luggage pieces, such as the Original Briefcase, have historically been made in the USA, though some components and specific lines are now sourced or assembled globally. In 2012, Filson was acquired by Bedrock Manufacturing Co., an investment group founded by Tom Kartsotis, who also founded Shinola. Under this ownership, the brand continues to emphasize its American heritage while operating as a global luxury outdoor brand.
