Artek Karuselli Lounge Chair

The Karuselli Lounge Chair is one of the most famous armchair designs in the world, originally designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1964. The chair is renowned for its ergonomic form, which was achieving by the designer spending years modelling the shape in plaster to perfectly fit the human body.

Today, the Karuselli is produced by Artek, the Finnish design house founded in 1935 by Alvar Aalto and others. Historically associated with Scandinavian modernism, Artek was acquired by the Swiss furniture company Vitra in 2013. Despite the change in ownership, Artek continues to operate as a distinct brand, with most of its core collection, including the upholstered Karuselli, being manufactured in Finland to maintain its heritage of craftsmanship and quality.
