Neutrogena is a globally recognized skincare brand known for its dermatologist-recommended products. The 'Norwegian Formula' depicted on this lip balm has a storied history; it was inspired by the traditional salves used by Norwegian fishermen to protect their skin from the harsh, cold Arctic conditions.
Originally a small specialty cosmetics company founded in California, the brand grew to international prominence before being acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 1994. In 2023, Johnson & Johnson completed the spin-off of its consumer health division into a new independent entity called Kenvue. Consequently, as of 2024 and beyond, Neutrogena is owned and operated by Kenvue. While the brand carries a Norwegian name and heritage, manufacturing for the European and UK markets predominantly takes place in France, while other global regions are served by various facilities in the US and Asia.
