Founded in 2009 by brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack, Herschel Supply Co. is named after the tiny town in Saskatchewan, Canada, where three generations of their family grew up. The brand quickly gained global prominence by blending vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern functionality, successfully targeting the millennial lifestyle and travel market with its distinctive woven labels and classic silhouettes.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Herschel Supply Co. remains a privately owned company controlled by its founders and institutional investors. In 2018, a minority stake was acquired by a consortium led by Eurazeo, Alliance Consumer Growth, and HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) to facilitate international expansion. Despite its strong Canadian heritage and design roots, manufacturing is primarily outsourced to high-quality facilities in Vietnam and China to meet global demand for their wide variety of backpacks, luggage, and accessories.
While the design and brand strategy are handled at the headquarters in Vancouver, Canada, the physical production of Herschel bags—including the Packable Daypack seen here—typically occurs in Vietnam. This allows the brand to maintain its competitive pricing while ensuring the technical textiles used in their lightweight and daily-carry products are produced at scale.
