Brand Origin and History

Weiss is a celebrated Australian brand founded in 1957 by Fred Weiss in Toowoomba, Queensland. Its most iconic product, the Mango and Cream bar, became a staple of Australian summers due to its unique format which separated the real fruit from the dairy cream side-by-side rather than coating one in the other. This innovation allowed the natural texture and flavor of the fruit to shine.

Manufacturing and Ownership

For over 65 years, Weiss bars were manufactured at the original factory in Toowoomba. However, following the acquisition of the brand by the multinational conglomerate Unilever, production was eventually consolidated to maintain global supply chain efficiencies. While the brand maintains its strong Australian identity and heritage, it is now part of one of the world's largest ice cream portfolios.

Current Status

As of the mid-2020s, Weiss continues to be managed under Unilever's ice cream division. Unilever remains the ultimate owner, overseeing the brand's distribution and ensuring that the classic recipes—which rely heavily on real fruit ingredients—are maintained for consumers across Australia and international markets.
