Weber is a premier global brand in the outdoor cooking industry, famously known for inventing the charcoal kettle grill. The brand's journey began in 1952 when George Stephen Sr. cut a metal buoy in half to create a dome-shaped grill with a lid at Weber Brothers Metal Works in Chicago, Illinois. This innovation revolutionized backyard cooking by providing better temperature control and protection from the elements.
While Weber-Stephen Products remains a dominant force in the market, it underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by BDT Capital Partners in 2011 and subsequently taken private again in early 2023. This strategic move was designed to bolster its long-term growth and innovation pipeline. Today, while many of its high-end components and assembly processes still take place in Huntley, Illinois, the company utilizes a global supply chain for various parts and specific product lines to serve the international market.
