Cooks' Cottage, located in Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne, Australia, is a unique historical structure originally built in 1755 in the village of Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, England, by the parents of Captain James Cook. In 1933, the cottage was purchased for Australia and dismantled brick by brick, then transported across the ocean in 253 cases and 40 barrels to its current location.
Today, the cottage serves as a popular tourist attraction and educational site, providing insight into 18th-century lifestyles. While its physical origin is English, its preservation and current status as a landmark are deeply tied to Australian heritage and the City of Melbourne's management.
