The Patung Satria Gatotkaca, also known as the Horse Chariot Statue, is a prominent landmark located near the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Tuban, Bali. It was commissioned in 1993 by the local government as part of an urban beautification project and to showcase Balinese artistic heritage to arriving visitors.
The monument depicts a legendary scene from the Mahabharata epic, specifically the battle between the hero Gatotkaca and Prince Karna. The intricate work was designed and created by the renowned Balinese artist I Wayan Winten. The sculpture is crafted from reinforced concrete and finished with white paint, symbolizing the spiritual and courageous nature of the figure.
Ownership of the monument remains with the Regional Government of Bali (Pemerintah Provinsi Bali). It serves as a cultural symbol, greeting tourists and locals alike as they travel through the busy intersection of Kuta. The maintenance and preservation of the site are managed under the local public works and cultural departments.
