The Planetoid Valleys necklace is a world-renowned piece of jewellery designed by Finnish artist Björn Weckström for Lapponia Jewelry in 1969. It gained global fame after being worn by Princess Leia in the original 1977 Star Wars film. The piece is characterized by its sculptural, organic silver forms that reflect the rugged beauty of the Finnish landscape and the futuristic aesthetic of the space age.

Founded in 1960 by Pekka Anttila and Björn Weckström, Lapponia was established in Helsinki, Finland, to create modern, artistic jewellery that broke away from traditionalist styles. In 2005, the brand was acquired by Kalevala Koru (Kalevala Jewelry), the most significant jewellery manufacturer in Finland. In 2020, the brands were fully integrated, and the iconic Lapponia designs continue to be produced by hand at the Kalevala factory in Helsinki, Finland, maintaining their legacy of artisanal craftsmanship and Nordic design excellence.
