Ledaig is a renowned brand of peated single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Tobermory Distillery, located on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. The distillery was established in 1798 by John Sinclair, making it one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland. The Ledaig name represents the peated output of the distillery, known for its smoky, earthy, and maritime profile, while the Tobermory label is used for its unpeated expressions.
Throughout its history, the distillery faced several closures and ownership changes until it was acquired by Burn Stewart Distillers. Today, the brand is owned by Distell Group Limited, a major South African brewing and beverages group. As of the early 2020s, Distell itself was acquired by the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V., making Heineken the ultimate owner company. Despite the global ownership, the whisky remains authentically Scottish, distilled and aged on the Isle of Mull according to traditional Scotch whisky regulations.
