Majalah Tempo is Indonesia's leading weekly news and investigative magazine, renowned for its independent journalism and critical reporting on politics, corruption, and social issues. Founded in 1971 by Goenawan Mohamad and other prominent journalists, it was inspired by the format of TIME magazine, providing in-depth analysis and storytelling that differed from the government-controlled media of the era.

Throughout its history, Tempo has faced significant challenges, most notably being banned twice by the Indonesian government—first in 1982 and more famously in 1994 under the Soeharto administration. The 1994 banning sparked widespread protests and became a symbol of the struggle for press freedom in Indonesia. The magazine resumed publication in 1998 following the fall of the New Order regime.

Today, the brand is owned and operated by PT Tempo Inti Media Tbk, a publicly traded media company in Indonesia. The magazine is printed domestically and has expanded into digital platforms, maintaining its reputation as a bastion of investigative reporting in Southeast Asia.
