The Aiwa NSX-999MkII is a classic example of home audio technology from the 1990s. Originally developed by the Japanese electronics giant Aiwa, this model was known for its high power output, featuring Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and a 3-CD changer.
Aiwa was established in Japan in 1951 and became a subsidiary of Sony in 1969, eventually being fully absorbed by Sony in the early 2000s. While Aiwa products were historically manufactured in Japan, during the peak of this series, production was distributed across several locations, including Malaysia, Thailand, and China, to serve global markets.
Following its acquisition by Sony and subsequent decline, the Aiwa brand name was eventually acquired by various regional entities. Currently, for international markets, the Aiwa brand is often licensed out. However, the legacy brand is currently managed by a revived entity, Aiwa Corporation, based in the United States, which focus on consumer electronics. Sony remains the historical ultimate owner during the product's primary market life, but current operations are independent.
