Alpro Homegrown Oat is a plant-based milk alternative specifically launched to highlight the use of 100% British-grown oats. While the Alpro brand originated in Belgium in 1980, this specific product line is part of a strategic movement to source ingredients locally within the UK market, often produced at their facilities in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
The Alpro brand was founded by the Belgian food group Vandemoortele as a pioneer in the European soy milk market. Since its inception, it has grown to become the market leader in plant-based alternatives across Europe. In 2017, as part of the acquisition of WhiteWave Foods, Alpro became part of the global portfolio of Danone, a French multinational food-products corporation. Today, Danone manages Alpro as a key component of its plant-based division, focusing on sustainability and expanding the variety of plant sources used in their beverages.
