Italo Train Service

Italo is the brand under which Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) operates high-speed rail services across Italy. Launched in 2012, it transformed the Italian rail market as the first private competitor to the state-owned Trenitalia.

The service utilizes a fleet of high-speed trains manufactured by Alstom, primarily the AGV 575 and the Italo EVO models, which are engineered for high-performance cross-regional travel within the Italian peninsula. The brand is known for its modern amenities and distinct ruby red livery.

Ownership of the brand has evolved over time. While founded by prominent Italian entrepreneurs, it was acquired by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in 2018. Since 2023, the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has taken a majority stake, integrating the rail operator into its global logistics and transport network.
