Hoka, originally known as Hoka One One, is a premium athletic footwear brand that has gained massive popularity for its oversized midsoles and superior cushioning. The brand was founded in Annecy, France, by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, who were seeking to design shoes that allowed for faster downhill running. Their disruptive design philosophy quickly caught the attention of both ultramarathon runners and casual enthusiasts alike.

In 2013, the brand was acquired by Deckers Brands, an American footwear powerhouse. Under Deckers' stewardship, Hoka has expanded its global presence and diversified its product line, moving beyond elite trail running into road running, hiking, and lifestyle footwear. While the brand's design roots and creative direction often draw inspiration from the French Alps, the engineering and corporate operations are now heavily centered in the United States.

Today, Hoka products are manufactured through a complex global supply chain. Most production occurs in Vietnam, which is the primary hub for Deckers' manufacturing operations, supplemented by facilities in China and Cambodia. The Mafate series remains one of the brand's cornerstone technical models, engineered for rugged terrain and technical trail performance.
