AKG (originally Akustische und Kino-Geräte Gesellschaft m.b.H.) is a legendary name in the world of professional audio engineering. Founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1947 by physicist Dr. Rudolf Görike and engineer Ernst Pless, the company initially provided technical equipment for cinemas. Over the decades, it became globally renowned for producing some of the world's most iconic microphones and headphones used in both professional recording studios and consumer electronics.

Today, the manufacturing of AKG products has largely shifted from its original Austrian base to global production hubs, primarily located in China and Vietnam. This transition allowed for greater scale and integration with global supply chains, though high-end professional lines historically maintained a presence in Europe.

In terms of ownership, AKG was acquired by Harman International Industries in 1994. In 2017, the brand underwent its most significant corporate change when Samsung Electronics acquired Harman International for approximately $8 billion. As a result, AKG is now a premium audio brand under the Samsung umbrella, with its technology integrated into a wide range of Samsung Galaxy mobile devices alongside its traditional standalone audio products.
