Wasa is a historic Swedish brand founded in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström, recognized globally as the world’s largest producer of crispbread. The brand originated in Skellefteå, Sweden, and was originally named AB Skellefteå Spisbrödsfabrik before taking the name Wasa after King Gustav Vasa.
While the brand remains deeply rooted in Swedish tradition and maintains significant production facilities in Filipstad, Sweden, it has been under international ownership since the late 20th century. Since 1999, the brand has been a key part of the Barilla Group, an Italian multinational food company. This ownership has allowed Wasa to expand its product range from traditional large crackers to modern, convenient snacks like the Sandwich product shown in the image. Today, manufacturing occurs primarily in Sweden for the Northern European market, with additional production in Germany for Central Europe.
