Dr. Bayard is one of Portugal's most iconic confectionery brands, famous for its pectoral cough drops. The brand's origin story dates back to the Second World War when its founder, Álvaro Matias, met a French chemist named Dr. Bayard who was seeking refuge in Portugal. In gratitude for the help received, the chemist shared the secret recipe for these medicinal-tasting herb candies.

Since its formal establishment in 1949, the brand has remained a family-owned business, maintaining its production strictly in Portugal (currently at its dedicated factory in Amadora). The candies are still made following the original formula which includes honey and medicinal plant extracts, serving as a staple in Portuguese households for generations.
