Kohberg is a prominent name in Danish baking, famously known as the country's largest family-owned bakery. The brand's journey began in 1955 when master baker Alfred Kohberg took over his father's bakery in Bolderslev, Southern Jutland. In 1969, operations moved to the iconic address Kernesvinget, where the company's headquarters remain today. The brand specialized early on in dark rye bread, a staple of Danish culture, utilizing traditional sourdough techniques.
In 1989, the company was acquired by the Fogtmann family (Inga and Preben Fogtmann), who subsequently founded the KOFF A/S holding company to manage their growing food industry investments. Ownership has transitioned to the second generation of the family, brothers Jesper and Per Fogtmann, who maintain the brand's commitment to Danish craft and ingredients. The product is manufactured locally in Denmark across three specialized bakeries located in Bolderslev, Haderslev, and Taastrup, often using domestic flour to minimize environmental impact.
