Ayam Brand is one of the oldest and most iconic consumer brands in Southeast Asia, with a history dating back to 1892. It was founded in colonial Singapore by Alfred Clouët, a French entrepreneur who initially focused on importing luxury foods and building materials. The brand’s name and logo originated from the French rooster (the symbol of France) featured on the tins, which local customers began referring to as 'Ayam' (the Malay word for chicken/rooster).

In 1954, the brand was acquired by the Denis Frères Group, a French family-owned conglomerate that has since expanded its global reach. While it originated in Singapore and has strong ties to Malaysian culinary culture, its ownership remains French-controlled through Ayam S.A.R.L. and the parent Denis Group. Today, the brand's extensive range of products—including the Chilisås Stark shown—is primarily manufactured in Malaysia, where the company operates several state-of-the-art facilities specializing in canned goods and sauces.
