Morrisons Green Pesto is a popular condiment sold by the British supermarket chain Morrisons. The product is an authentic Italian-style basil pesto, typically featuring ingredients like basil, sunflower oil, cheeses, and nuts. To maintain authenticity and quality, this private-label product is manufactured in Italy, the home of pesto, and then imported for sale in the United Kingdom.
Morrisons, formally known as Wm Morrison Supermarkets, was founded by William Morrison in 1899 as an egg and butter stall in Bradford, England. Throughout the 20th century, it expanded from a local market stall into one of the 'Big Four' supermarkets in the UK. Historically a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange, it underwent a significant ownership change in late 2021 when it was acquired by the American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R). Despite the change in ownership, the brand remains centrally headquartered in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and continues to operate as a distinctly British retailer.
