Starbucks coffee is a globally recognized beverage brand, originally established in Seattle, Washington, in 1971. The brand began as a small roastery and retailer of whole bean and ground coffee, tea, and spices, eventually evolving into the world's largest coffeehouse chain. The 'We Proudly Serve' branding seen on the cup indicates that the coffee is served through a partnership program often found in offices, hospitals, or hotels, rather than a standalone corporate store.
While Starbucks manages its own retail locations, its consumer packaged goods and foodservice products (including the coffee beans and ingredients used in 'We Proudly Serve' programs) are managed through the Global Coffee Alliance. This alliance was formed in 2018 when Nestlé paid for the perpetual rights to market Starbucks consumer and foodservice products globally, outside of Starbucks coffee shops. Therefore, while Starbucks Corporation remains an independent company based in the USA, the products distributed via this channel are technically under the stewardship of Nestlé.
Manufacturing of these products occurs in multiple countries, with roasting facilities located in the United States, Europe, and Asia to serve their respective regional markets. The specific coffee beans are sourced from various tropical regions across Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
