Ursus is often referred to as 'The King of Beer in Romania,' with a heritage dating back to 1878 when its first brewery was founded in Cluj-Napoca. The brand has become a national icon, known for its distinctive bear logo and its connection to the Romanian landscape, particularly the Carpathian Mountains.
While the brand holds deep Romanian roots, its ownership has transitioned through several major global brewing conglomerates over the last few decades. Following a period under South African Breweries (SAB) and later SABMiller, it was acquired by the Japanese beverage giant Asahi Group Holdings in 2017. Today, Ursus remains brewed within Romania at its facilities in Brașov, Buzău, and Timișoara, maintaining its local production status under international stewardship.
