Founded in 1988 by Régis Pelen under the company Distriborg, it became the first organic brand to be distributed in large-scale retail supermarkets in France. The brand has undergone several ownership changes over the decades; Distriborg was renamed Wessanen France after being acquired by the Dutch company Wessanen. In 2020, Wessanen rebranded as Ecotone, which currently serves as the ultimate parent company. Ecotone is headquartered in Lyon, France, and remains a global leader in sustainable and organic food production.
