Banks's Amber Bitter is a classic English ale with a deep brewing history rooted in the West Midlands. Originally founded by Thompson and Son in 1875, the brand became synonymous with Wolverhampton, where it has been brewed at the Park Brewery for over a century. Known for its distinct malty profile and moderate bitterness, it remains a staple of the British brewing tradition.
Today, the brand is owned by Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company (CMBC), a joint venture formed in 2020 between the Danish giant Carlsberg Group and the British Marston's PLC. While the heritage remains intensely local to the Black Country, the brand is now part of a major international portfolio, benefiting from large-scale distribution while maintaining its traditional brewing methods at the Park Brewery in Wolverhampton.
