Bowers & Wilkins, often abbreviated as B&W, is a prestigious British company that has been a leader in the high-end audio market for decades. Founded in 1966 by John Bowers in Worthing, West Sussex, England, the brand initially gained fame for its high-fidelity loudspeakers. Over time, it expanded its portfolio to include premium headphones, automotive audio systems, and wireless speakers, maintaining a commitment to 'true sound' and engineering excellence.
While the professional research and engineering teams remain largely based in the United Kingdom, the manufacturing of their consumer-grade electronics, such as the Px7 S2 headphones shown in the image, is primarily carried out in specialized facilities in China to manage scale and global distribution.
In terms of corporate ownership, the brand has undergone significant transitions. After being acquired by Silicon Valley startup EVA Automation in 2016, Bowers & Wilkins was subsequently acquired by Sound United LLC in 2020. In 2022, Masimo Corporation, an American global medical technology company, acquired Sound United, bringing Bowers & Wilkins under its expansive umbrella of consumer audio brands.
