DAF (Van Doorne's Automobiel Fabriek) is a premier European commercial vehicle manufacturer with a storied history originating in the Netherlands. Established in 1928 by brothers Hub and Wim van Doorne, the company evolved from a machine shop into a leading truck manufacturer known for innovation, including the early development of variomatic transmissions and highly efficient diesel engines.
Today, DAF is a prominent brand within the global automotive landscape. Its main production facilities are located in Eindhoven, Netherlands (where its headquarters remain) and Westerlo, Belgium, with additional manufacturing in Leyland, United Kingdom (under the Leyland Trucks name) and Ponta Grossa, Brazil. This diverse manufacturing footprint allows the brand to serve markets across the globe with its well-regarded LF, CF, and XF series trucks.
Since 1996, DAF Trucks has been a wholly owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc, a Fortune 500 company based in the United States. PACCAR is one of the world's largest manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, also owning the Kenworth and Peterbilt brands. This acquisition integrated DAF into a massive global network while allowing it to maintain its distinct Dutch heritage and European design philosophy.
