Söhnlein Brillant is one of Germany's most venerable sparkling wine brands, with a history dating back to its founding by Johann Jacob Söhnlein in 1864 in Schierstein am Rhein. The brand became famous for its high quality, even serving as a purveyor to the imperial court. Throughout the 20th century, it established itself as a staple of German celebratory culture.
Today, the brand is manufactured in Germany and remains a cornerstone of the Henkell Freixenet portfolio. The brand's ownership transitioned significantly in 1987 when Söhnlein Rheingold KG merged with Henkell & Co. This entity eventually became Henkell Freixenet following a major acquisition of the Spanish sparkling wine giant Freixenet. The ultimate owner is Geschwister Oetker Beteiligungen KG, a major German conglomerate that split from the Oetker Group in 2021. This ensures that while the brand has international distribution, its management and heritage remain deeply rooted in German corporate tradition.
