Privileg was a private-label brand belonging to the German mail-order company Quelle, which became a household name for affordable and reliable domestic appliances. The model shown, the Privileg 2000 Nutzstich, is a classic example of their range of sewing machines designed for home use. Throughout the late 20th century, these machines were manufactured by various international specialized producers through original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreements, commonly in countries like Japan or Taiwan, and then rebadged under the Privileg name for the German market. After the insolvency of Quelle's parent company, Arcandor, in 2009, the rights to the Privileg brand were acquired by the Whirlpool Corporation. Today, the brand remains an active part of Whirlpool’s portfolio, primarily used for large household appliances in Europe while maintaining its legacy as a trusted consumer brand from the era of mail-order catalogs.
