Wasa is an iconic brand synonymous with crispbread, established in Sweden in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström. Originally known as Vasabrödet, named after the Swedish King Gustav Vasa, the brand has grown from a local bakery in Skellefteå to become the world's largest producer of crispbread. The product featured is a whole-grain oat-based crispbread (Flocons d'Avoine), designed as a high-fiber snack option.
While the brand maintains its Nordic heritage, its ownership has transitioned over the decades to large multinational corporations. Historically part of Wasabröd AB, it was acquired by the Swiss company Sandoz in 1982. In 1999, the brand was sold to the Italian food giant Barilla. Today, the manufacturing occurs at specialized bakeries, most notably in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany, ensuring the product's widespread availability across Europe and North America.
