Coopers is Australia's largest Australian-owned brewery, famous for its traditional bottle-conditioning method. Founded in 1862 by Thomas Cooper, the brand has maintained its heritage by staying within the Cooper family for six generations. Unlike many other major Australian breweries that have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Coopers Brewery Limited remains independent.
The manufacturing process is centralized at their state-of-the-art facility in Regency Park, South Australia. This site produces their entire range of beers, including the iconic Sparkling Ale and Pale Ale, as well as their world-renowned DIY home brew kits. The company is known for its unique 'cloudy' beer appearance, which results from natural carbonation and the absence of pasteurization.
Ownership of the company is strictly held by the Cooper family and some long-term employees. This independence allows them to maintain traditional brewing techniques that date back over 160 years. As of 2024 and looking toward the future, Coopers continues to invest in sustainable brewing and maintains a significant share of the Australian craft and premium beer market.
