Ankerkraut is a well-known German spice manufactory based in Hamburg, founded in 2013 by Stefan and Anne Lemcke. The brand gained significant popularity after appearing on the German television show 'Die Höhle der Löwen' (the German version of Shark Tank). They are famous for their high-quality spice blends packaged in iconic cork-stoppered glass jars.
While the raw ingredients (spices) are sourced globally, the blending, processing, and packaging take place at their facility in Hamburg, Germany. In 2022, the brand underwent a major ownership shift when the founders and previous investors sold their majority stake to the Swiss multinational food and beverage giant Nestlé. This acquisition sparked significant discussion but allowed the brand to utilize Nestlé's extensive distribution network while maintaining its brand identity as a premium 'taste factory'.
