Alpro is a pioneering brand in the plant-based food industry, originally founded in Belgium in 1980 as a subsidiary of the Vandemoortele Group. It quickly became a market leader in Europe for soy-based products and subsequently expanded its portfolio to include almond, hazelnut, oat, and coconut-based beverages.
Over the years, the brand underwent significant ownership changes. It was acquired by WhiteWave Foods, which later merged with Danone in 2017. Today, Alpro is a core component of Danone's plant-based division. Manufacturing occurs across several European facilities, with major plants located in Wevelgem (Belgium), Issenheim (France), and Kettering (UK), ensuring a localized supply chain for the European market.
