Four Roses Bourbon Whiskey

Four Roses is a historic American bourbon brand founded in 1888 by Paul Jones Jr. in Louisville, Kentucky. The brand's romantic backstory involving a marriage proposal and a corsage of four roses has become a central part of its identity. For much of the 20th century, notably under Seagram's ownership, the brand's straight bourbon was withdrawn from the U.S. market and sold exclusively in Europe and Asia, while a blended spirit occupied the domestic name.

In 2002, the Japanese conglomerate Kirin Brewery Company purchased the brand and returned the premium straight bourbon to American shelves. In a major industry shift occurring in April 2026, Kirin finalized the sale of Four Roses to the California-based wine and spirits giant E. & J. Gallo for approximately $775 million. This acquisition returned the brand to American family ownership after more than 80 years. The bourbon continues to be manufactured at its historic Spanish Mission-style distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, using its unique system of ten distinct bourbon recipes.
