Benelli is one of the oldest Italian motorcycle manufacturers, established in 1911 in Pesaro, Italy. Originally founded by the Benelli family to provide service and spare parts for cars and motorcycles, the brand evolved into a full-scale manufacturer known for high-performance racing machines and iconic designs. Throughout the 20th century, Benelli achieved significant success in European racing circuits, cementing its legacy in the motorcycling world.
In 2005, the brand was acquired by the Qianjiang Group, a major Chinese industrial conglomerate. This acquisition marked a shift in manufacturing strategy; while the design, engineering, and research and development phases for many flagship models continue to take place at the Benelli Q.J. headquarters in Pesaro, Italy, the mass production is primarily conducted in Wenling, China. This synergy allows the brand to maintain its Italian heritage and design aesthetic while leveraging large-scale manufacturing efficiencies. Today, Benelli's global presence continues to grow under the ownership of Geely, which acquired a controlling stake in the Qianjiang Group.
