Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, commonly referred to as Brighton, is a professional football club based in the city of Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England. Founded in 1901, the club has a rich history in English football, rising from the lower leagues to become a stable competitor in the Premier League. The club plays its home matches at the modern Falmer Stadium, commercially known as the American Express Stadium, which opened in 2011.
The club is primarily owned by Bloom Sports Limited, a company controlled by Tony Bloom, a lifelong supporter and professional gambler/entrepreneur. Bloom took over as the majority shareholder in 2009 and has overseen the most successful period in the club's history, including its first-ever qualification for European competition. While most operations are centered in the UK, the club's brand and merchandise are recognized globally through their participation in Top-flight English football.
